"Modern technology has brought us all the gadgetry, but technical competence is still the preserve of the experienced pro. So don’t mess around with your photography, get a creative professional in to do a proper job. You will quickly see the benefits."
In Focus is brought to you by For You Photography™ , it is a new series, in which, I will be sharing you my own knowledge and experience of how photography can help to boost your business. As well as speak to other professionals from a whole range of backgrounds, who can also provide you with more insight into why photography is essential for you and your business. The series will consist of both blogs and videos for you over the next few weeks and months.
I could talk to you all day every day about my thoughts on photography as one of, if not THE most important resources in your branding and marketing. However, I want you to gain more understanding of photography from a wide range of experts to give you tips, suggestions and connections to where you can learn more and most of all, give the best view of your business to your audience.
My first connection within the series is with Tom Willcox, Tom is a professional copywriter, PR and marketing specialist. Today, he has shared with us his views on why he believes photography is so important to your business.
Why photography is so important to your business profile.
“A picture is worth a thousand words.” It’s a hackneyed saying we hear all the time, but why is this cliché so important for your online business profile and marketing and PR campaigns?
Because photography matters. High-quality imagery will set you apart from your competitors. Too many businesses these days think they can take high-quality pictures using a smartphone. They’re wrong. There is a big difference between a social media snapshot and suitable, professional photographs for your website or for a promotional brochure you want
to leave with that all-important potential client.
Take a cursory glance across business websites, social media posts, local news channels and marketing materials and you'll get the picture: photos with people looking off-camera or with eyes closed, lamp posts sticking out of heads, health and safety signage in the background, the list of common mistakes runs on and on.
Photographers, like copywriters and designers, think and analyse differently. They will look at your business in a whole new light and come up with imaginative ideas to portray it. They will help you obtain photographs which can demonstrate your products and services and ideally show exactly how they benefit your clients.
Stock photos purchased online for a website will simply give you a same-y feel about your website. You won’t convey your business values and why you are different by using the same sort of pictures everybody else is using. And the same goes for marketing materials. You need photography which is tailored to your own business.
In PR and the media too, photography can add enormous value to a news story, so you need a professional to create an angle which conveys animation and momentum, to think about background and lighting, to consider all the possible options.
Modern technology has brought us all the gadgetry, but technical competence is still the preserve of the experienced pro. So don’t mess around with your photography, get a creative professional in to do a proper job. You will quickly see the benefits.
