Case Study: Shooting Nicki James’ Evolution Mastermind Retreat

Nicki James- Presenting her Evolution Mastermind Retreat

I am always excited to work with entrepreneurs to capture their events and workshops, and this recent photoshoot was no exception. I was invited to shoot brand strategist Nicki James’ recent Evolution Mastermind Retreat. The two-day retreat saw a group of motivated female business owners come together to learn from Nicki, network with each other and find inspiration for their next their next level.

Ever wondered what goes into a business event photoshoot with me? Keep reading the case study for the insider scoop.

Background

Nicki James is a brand strategist who specialises in supporting women entrepreneurs to set and achieve their goals. She provided 1-2-1 coaching and also runs a fantastic Mastermind and Retreat, which I was invited to photograph to help her boost her own personal brand.

As a current client of Nicki’s, I knew that her programmes were really special. Her brand is so eye-catching and memorable already, with her amazing personality at the centre of everything she does. So it was really an honour to be on the other side of the lens this time and shoot the latest retreat for her.

Objectives

The key goals for this shoot were…

  • Capture Nicki in her element delivering the Mastermind Retreat

  • Get images of stationery and other branded products throughout the day

  • Grab candids of cohorts that they can use on their own socials to promote the event and themselves

The Process

Having worked with Nicki before, I had a good idea about the event and how to best shoot the process. However, we still had a quick session before the two-day event to make sure I knew exactly what she needed from me, and I was equipped with a list of photos to capture.

Nicki’s events are unique and fun, so it takes a keen eye to really get the vibe of the day in stills. The Mastermind is all about taking a collaborative approach to coaching and helping female entrepreneurs really pinpoint what they want to achieve and give them practical tips for getting where they want to be.

On the day, I was sure to grab plenty of images of Nicki delivering the course, but I also took plenty of photos of the cohorts working together. The Hot Seat section of the day is a really interesting one as it involves one participant sharing an issue or problem they have with the group while everyone brainstorms solutions. Photography is a great way to capture this as it’s not as easy to explain in words as it is to show people what to expect from the day.

Nicki also provides a fab gift bag with plenty of branded stationery, a candle, a notebook and a wall planner. The Mastermind took place at a beautiful countryside estate, making it a great place to escape the pressures of daily life and get the creative juices flowing.

The Results

I think the photos really speak for themselves here. I really wanted to capture what makes Nicki’s events so special and give potential future clients insight into what it’s like to attend her Mastermind, also the incredible women it attracted to attend. Going to a two-day event like this can be quite daunting, so imagery like this is super important for getting across what an approachable person Nicki really is and how great it is to work with her.
