Behind the Scenes: Shooting Nic Redman Voice & Style By Bella

I was honoured to do a brand photography shoot for the amazing Nicola Redman, also known as the author on the mic, a vocal expert who has worked with a number of exciting names, including Sarah Millican and Denise Welsh. Nic required images to promote her upcoming book launch, so we found the perfect opportunity to grab new shots for use across all her platforms.

But this was no ordinary brand shoot, as we collaborated with Style By Bella, a leading North East personal stylist, to grab photos for both awesome businesses at the same time.

If you’ve read my blog or heard me speak before, you’ll know that authenticity is at the core of my brand photography. I love nothing more than snapping photos of people doing what they’re great at – live-action is always better than staged!

So, to kill two birds with one stone, we ventured on a personal styling mission with Nic and Bella. First, I captured images of Bella at work, and then some shots of Nic after her makeover, then the following day at one of her vocal retreats on-site at her amazing location by Hadrian’s Wall.

On the day, I headed to Eldon Square to meet Nic and Bella for the big shoot. My approach to brand photography is very flexible; I don’t like to stage photos or have a checklist of exactly which images we need. Instead, I want to create a bank of images my clients can dip into for use across all their platforms, including social media, their website and email marketing. 

For Bella, we wanted to grab shots of her working her magic on Nic. Bella’s business is unique in that she works with people from all walks of life to help them find their style to suit their budget and lifestyle. 

Style By Bella is all about celebrating you - finding clothes and accessories that work for the client and not forcing anyone into a certain style or trend. Bella’s shopping sessions are relaxed and chatty, which definitely comes across in these images of Nic’s personal shopping day.

Alongside the images I captured of Nic at Eldon Square, we went to two other locations for in situ images to promote her book launch. 

Firstly, we went to Pride Media Centre to snap Nic in the vocal booth - ideal for promoting her work with podcasters and audiobook specialists. 

Then, we headed up to Waltown Country Park in Northumberland to shoot one of her renowned vocal retreats. As a voice coach, Nic works with people from a wide range of industries, including acting, podcasting and public speaking. She helps them to improve their speaking voice, perfect their accents and deliver outstanding presentations.

I absolutely love working with passionate and talented people like Nic and Bella - and working with them both at the same time was truly an honour. Collaboration is such a powerful tool. By working together, we got all the images both entrepreneurs needed and made some fantastic connections along the way.
